Service Description

Throw on a pair of old clothes and arrive ready to get messy and creative at this fun Tie Dye & Shibori workshop. The process of tie-dye typically consists of folding, twisting, pleating, or crumpling fabric or a garment and binding with string or rubber bands, followed by application of dye(s). Shibori is an ancient Japanese resist dyeing technique that can be traced back as early as the 8th century. You might recognise Shibori because of its distinctive indigo BLUE colouring and tie-dye patterns. In this class you will learn how to experiment with natural fabrics to create these different patterns. From stitching, folding and tying techniques, to using tiles and clamps on the fabric, you will then apply the indigo dye to create range beautiful materials. Natural fabrics in triangle bunting shapes will be provided. But please bring your own clothes etc also. At the end of the workshop you will get to take home your dyed samples and experiments and the skills to do Shibori at home! Dying and setting the colour takes 24hrs so you will take them home wet in bags with instructions for rinsing. WHAT TO BRING: You can bring anything to Dye; pillow case, socks, T-shirt just remember they need to be natural fabrics like cotton and linen as opposed to synthetics and synthetic blends and white or light works best.
