Purple Rain

This week I’ve danced in the purple rain of the stunning Jacaranda trees and even laid down and done a purple snow angel in the falling petals!!! Let’s face it with the rising cost of living, doom and gloom on the news, global warning and war in the middle east….life can be more than a bit grey sometimes.

Well, here’s a gift from me, I’m going to open the pandoras box of my creative mind are you ready because colour is here to save the day!
You might ask “Can something as simple as a splash of yellow or a touch of blue really change how you feel?”
Absolutely!
Colour can play an incredible role in our mood, energy, and even our sense of calm, just consider what you choose to wear each day and the vibe your outfit gives. Then when you combine colour with creativity, you’ve got a recipe for boosting your mental health.
Colour has been shown to directly affect our emotions and mental state. Here’s a quick guide to what some common colours can do for your mood:
Yellow – The colour of sunshine and smiles! Yellow is known for boosting happiness, making it the perfect shade to pick you up on a dreary day.
Blue – Calming, soothing, and peaceful. Blue has long been associated with tranquility – air and water. If you’re feeling anxious, incorporating shades of blue into your artwork could help ease your mind.
Green – Ah, the colour associated with nature. Green evokes feelings of balance and harmony. Think of how refreshing it feels to be surrounded by greenery. It’s no wonder that adding some green to your palette can help restore your inner calm.
Red – Bold and passionate, red grabs attention and can boost energy levels. If you’re feeling sluggish or unmotivated, try painting or crafting with a little red to reignite your spark.
Purple – Mysterious and imaginative, purple is often linked to creativity. This colour can inspire new ideas and bring out your inner artist.
Pink – Soft and comforting, pink can evoke a sense of nurturing and warmth. Perfect for days when you need a little self-care or TLC.
When it comes to using colour for your mental health, there really are no strict rules. Art is a playground of joy, exploration and discovery and that freedom coupled with colour is MY LIFE! Here are a few simple ways to use colour to lift your mood:

Join me at U Create Online Art studio: Let me guide you, teach you and join you as we explore colour together….trust me I know colour!
Colour Therapy Journal: Set aside some time each day to play with colours in a sketchbook or journal. You don’t need to be the next Van Gogh—just let your hand flow and notice how different colours affect your mood.
Create a Colour Palette for Your Feelings: Each day, pick colours that represent how you’re feeling and make a quick doodle or painting. Over time, you’ll see patterns that help you understand your emotions better.
Brighten Your Environment: Surround yourself with mood-boosting colours. Whether it’s a vibrant painting on the wall or cheerful cushions on your sofa, colour can lift your spirits even when you’re not actively creating.
My mantra is “I am not an Art Therapist but Art is My Therapy”
Incorporating colour into your daily life through art is one of the simplest ways to take care of your mental health. And the best part? You don’t need fancy materials or loads of experience—just a bit of curiosity and a willingness to play.
So, next time you’re feeling a bit down, try splashing some bright yellow on a canvas or doodling in soft blues. Who knows? You might just find that the world feels a little lighter, a little brighter, and a lot more colourful.
Let’s paint the world a happier place, one colour at a time!
