PAINT LAB - understanding painting techniques Starts Tuesday 3rd November - 6 weeks Right, this term the studio turns into a Paint Lab. Every week we pinch a trick from a real, famous artist, find out how they did it, and then make it our own. Aprons on. It's going to get messy. WEEK 1 - Colour Castles with Paul Klee We get three colours. Red, yellow and blue. That's it! And from those three we're going to mix every single colour for a whole castle - greens, purples, oranges and the funny in-between ones like blue-green and red-orange. It's like magic, honestly. WEEK 2 - Gumnut Bush Creatures with May Gibbs Have you met the Gumnut Babies? May Gibbs painted them over 100 years ago and they're still gorgeous. We're inventing our own little bush creature - a koala in a gumnut hat, a very cheeky possum, a frog in wellies (why not?) - and painting it in soft, glowing watercolour. WEEK 3 - Gel Print Garden with Kim Herringe Bring me leaves! Gum leaves, ferns, anything from your garden. We squish them onto squidgy gel plates, peel off the most beautiful prints, then cut them up into Aussie flowers and critters. Every print is a surprise. WEEK 4 - Thiebaud Treats with Wayne Thiebaud Cakes. Ice creams. Donuts. Painted so thick and creamy you'll want to lick them (please don't). We spread the paint on with palette knives, just like icing a cake. WEEK 5 - Dotty for Kusama Yayoi Kusama was completely dotty about dots. She covered whole rooms and giant pumpkins in them! We'll paint a big bold abstract and then go dot crazy. WEEK 6 - Christmas Party! Our annual Create Club Christmas party. Free choice, festive fun and probably far too much glitter. Through each term we explore the seven basic elements of art including: Line, Shape, Form, Texture, Value, Space and Colour using a wide range of different techniques, materials, and mediums. These are the building blocks of all art which are discovered through the exciting teacher led projects cantered around a subject theme. Whilst the same lesson plan is delivered to the class a whole, the students are invited and encouraged to personalise their art, make creative choices, and develop a sense of creative expression. This might be as simple as colour choice, adding details or narrative features. U Create Art promotes creative discovery, techniques and teaching through imagination, inspiration, and FUN. U Create Club is a term time after-school art club from 3.30pm - 5.30pm Please note - there is 1 make up session per term for sickness and holidays.
